The Growing Popularity of Photography
Photography has been around for over a century, but its importance has only grown in recent years. Here are three examples of why photography is becoming increasingly popular:
- Agriculture: Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with cameras are being used to survey agricultural land from different heights, allowing farmers to obtain unique data necessary for the assessment of agricultural territories, crop processing, and plant growth stimulation. The use of UAVs increases the speed of fieldwork and reduces the time required to cover a given area. Geometric and photogrammetry methods are used to calculate the UAV flight trajectory, covering a given section, and the trajectory of movement in an environment with obstacles to the designated point.
- Science: Time-lapse photography is being used in scientific applications to study the remote deep-sea environment. It has been used to study echiuran feeding, xenophyophore growth, benthopelagic scavengers, and long-term studies of phytodetritus. The technology for time-lapse photography will change over time, but the concept remains of great value in studying the remote deep-sea environment.
- Botany: Many examples of flower openings have been recorded using time-lapse photography, showing its velocity and the required elongation growth. Ethylene regulates flower opening, together with at least gibberellins and auxin. Ethylene and gibberellic acid often promote and inhibit, respectively, the expression of DELLA genes and the stability of DELLA proteins. DELLA results in growth inhibition. Both hormones also inhibited and promoted, respectively, the expression of aquaporin genes required for cell elongation.
